Learn to practice and teach the breath. Rooted in histories of yoga, for nervous system balance and yogic progress.

OVERVIEW & SUMMARY

Picture
For the last many decades, yoga has become nearly synonymous with asana or posture practice. Yet for centuries, yogic traditions emphasized breath practices which aimed to explore the relationship between the breath and the mind. The breath, either as something to be cultivated or as something to be restrained, was a window into the deeper layers of the self.

Contemporary yoga has neglected to give the breath the attention it deserves.

Furthermore, modern science has begun to study and understand just how important breathing practices are to balancing the nervous system, better sleep, deeper relaxation, increased calmness and reduced anxiety.

This training seeks to prepare practitioners to deepen their relationship with the breath and  to teach others both traditional and contemporary breath practices.

We will learn about yogic breath practices, or pranayama, as well as contemporary breathing practices for health and wellness. These overlap, but are not the same.

We will explore yogic understandings of breath across millennia as well as modern breathing physiology.

Breathing practices are subtler, and often more profound than the asana practice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q: How many hours per week will I spend on the training?
A: Aside from asana and pranayama practice, there is approximately 8-10 hours/ week of lecture material in the Hybrid Intensive. In the Hybrid it is approximately 4-5 hours/ week.

Q: Do I need to practice at a studio during this training?
A: No. A home practice is sufficient for this course. However, trainees can also practice at their local studio as desired.

Q: Do I need to teach in English?
A: No. The course material is given in English so a certain level of comprehension is required. However, we accept teaching homework in any language and encourage practice in the language you will teach in.

Q: Is the course recognized by Yoga Alliance?
A: Yes. This course is recognized by Yoga Alliance at the 200 Hour level.

Q: Will I be able to teach the 26+2 sequence?
A: Yes, you will have the skills necessary to teach that sequence. However, this is not a scripted/dialogue training (see next question).

Q: Is this a "dialogue" training?

Q: Will I be able to teach after I complete this training?
A: Yes. This training is designed for those who have never taught before. Following completion of the training, you will have the skills necessary to teach a yoga class.
